Teaching of Biology Major

In addition to the requirements for the option listed below, students must complete the Teacher Education Minor in Secondary School Teaching (approximately 37 hours). See the College of Education for requirements of the minor. Conferral of the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences prior to completion of the minor requires approval by petition to the LAS Student Affairs Office. Most students will require ten semesters to complete this program.

12 Additional advanced-level (300- and approved 200-level) courses selected from IB and/or MCB in consultation with the advisor.

Twelve hours of advanced-level (300- and approved 200-level) courses in the major must be taken on this campus.

Prerequisites to transfer to the Teaching Option: EDPSY 211; EPS 201 or 202; MATH 120 or 135; CHEM 101, 102, 105 and 106; CHEM 231, CHEM 234; IB 150 and MCB 150; at least one required 200-level IB course and at least one required 200-level MCB course. In addition, the student is required to take the Illinois Certification Testing System test of Basic Skills by the December before applying to the Teaching Education Minor in Secondary School Teaching. A passing grade on this test is required before admission to the Teaching Education Minor in Secondary School Teaching.
