Integrative Biology
100 & 101
Fall 2008
General Education
Life Science Option

This fall semester you could be a number in a large lecture course OR you could try Integrative Biology (IB) 100 (3 hrs W/discussion) or IB 101 (4 Hours W/lab).

The instructional staff, including lecturers and teaching assistants are dedicated to helping you understand biology.

You will learn about: human impact on ecosystems and global climate change; cancer, the workings of your genes, and biotechnology; and biodiversity, and the processes of evolution.

IB 100 includes a one-hour lecture section that will meet at 9:00 AM Mondays and Wednesdays, plus a one-hour discussion section (20 Students) once each week.

IB 101 shares the lecture with IB 100, but students attend a lab instead of the discussion section (20 students).

The Course is designed around a set of learner objectives that clearly define what you are expected to learn and be able to do.

Lectures engage students in interactive learning activities.

Small discussion and laboratory sections provide a chance to get to know your instructor and classmates and reinforce your understanding of concepts introduced in lectures.

Guided assignments help you prepare for exams by constructing a meaningful understanding of biological concepts rather than just memorizing facts.

Extensive learning resources are provided on the course web site (http://www.life.uiuc.edu/bio100/).

A variety of optional, extra credit learning opportunities are available to help you learn by following your interests and creative talents.

The textbook is available in traditional hard-back or as a less expensive, interactive, electronic version that can be downloaded to your computer.
