Biophysics - CSE Option

Ph.D. Progam

The Center for Biophysics and Computational Biology offers an option in Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) under its Ph.D. degree program. To be eligible for the CSE option in Biophysics and Computational Biology, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

1) satisfy all of the regular Ph.D. requirements for the Center for Biophysics and Computational Biology
2) take two core CSE courses (listed below) or their equivalent
3) take two CSE courses offered in Biophysics and Computational Biology or other departments
4) the Ph.D. thesis must be related to computational science as well as to biophysics, as judged by the thesis committee
5) include on the thesis committee at least one faculty member affiliated with the CSE program

Note: the student must still satisfy the two 500-level course requirement for the Center for Biophysics and Computational Biology, but the core CSE courses and the CSE courses in biophysics (or those approved for Biophysics credit), may count toward this total where appropriate.

CSE Core Courses

CSE 401 Intro to Numerical Analysis
CSE 402 Intro to Parallel Programming
CSE 400 Data Structures, Non-CS Majors
CSE 411 Numerical Methods for PDEs
CSE 527 Scientific Visualization
