Secondary Structure Plots of Sequence
The first three helices from the cytochrome b model
The SeqPlot Window allows you to construct a secondary structural cartoon
using the sequence information and current structural model. The structures available are:
- Helical cylinders in vertical or horizontal configuration. These can be "flipped over" so that the N-terminal end is either top or bottom (or left or right).
- Helical wheels. These can be viewed with clockwise or anticlockwise rotation, appropriate for the view from the C-terminal or N-terminal end.
- Coils. All other structures are represented using the Coil drawing function. Residue circles can be positioned one at a time, using the mouse, for the span selected as a coil.
The cartoon can be output to file or the Windows printer. Size of structures can be pre-set, making it possible to draw helical cylinders to a defined circumference. The printed structures can be cut out and formed on rods (balsa wood from the model shop is good) of appropriate size, and strung together with stout wire to make a helical model.
