The
Insect Fear Film Festival - scaring the general public with
horrific films and horrific filmmaking since 1984
The
25th Insect
Fear Film Festival will be held on Saturday, February 23rd in Foellinger
Auditorium! As
usual, admission is free and the doors open at 6 PM. This year's
theme, Animated Social Insects, is
a change of tack from our usual fare of scary and horrible films.
We are pleased to announce that Simon Smith, the director of Bee
Movie, will be keynoting our festival!

IFFF Art
Contest:
For many years,
we have held an Insect Art Contest in conjunction with the Insect
Fear Film Festival. The art contest is organized and presented
by graduate students and judged by volunteers from campus and
the community, but participation by teachers and students truly
makes the art contest a success. In the past, we have solicited
entries from art teachers in area schools, but we think that participation
in the Insect Art Contest can extend beyond art classes. Any
student in the community is welcome to enter! If you
are interested in the contest, please click the links below for
the contest rules and entry form.
Remember that insects relate to many subjects beyond biology,
such as history, music, and literature. For example, in keeping
with the theme-cartoon insect society films, kids could make a
cartoon or comic strip about insects that reflects something about
human society.
For more information
about the Insect Art Contest, contact Cynthia McDonnell (cmcdonne@uiuc.edu)
or Bridget O'Neill (bfoneill@uiuc.edu).
If you are interested in having students learn more about insects
in the classroom, the Entomology Graduate Student Association
can arrange a presentation for your students. Please contact one
of our Outreach Coordinators, Elizabeth Graham (eegraham@life.uiuc.edu)
or Lynn Fennema (lfennema@uiuc.edu),
for more information.
