Outreach represents
the opportunity for entomologists to take our particular area of interest and
apply it for people who may not normally spend their time thinking about insects.
Outreach is not only fulfilling of its own right, it is a key ingredient towards
making yourself marketable on both the academic and applied fronts, for both
students and faculty/staff. Outreach can take numerous forms, from spending
time talking to a class of third graders about monarch migration to participating
in local meetings with area farmers to discuss rootworm concerns. Listed below
are resources for finding the right outreach opportunity for you, as well as
some of the regular events that go on in the University of Illinois community.
But many other options abound that come up on shorter notice. Keep in touch
with your department office to make full advantage of outreach events as they
become available.

Listed below are
examples of some of our most popular outreach programs. These events are very
popular in the community, but could not be accomplished without the volunteer
help of entomologists@Illinois. Not only do the public enjoy these events, but
the volunteers enjoy them even more!
