Research Interests

I am broadly interested in the biogeochemical cycling, retention, and loss of elements in temperate forest ecosystems.  The focus of my research has been to understand how biological, hydrological, and geochemical processes interact to produce element dynamics.  My work has integrated observational studies, manipulation experiments, and modeling to elucidate the biotic and abiotic controls on the biogeochemical cycles and how these cycles respond to natural and anthropogenic disturbances.  The modeling work allows the extension of studies at individual watersheds to regional scales.
