Key responsibilities

The Prairie Flowers Program Manager will design and implement educationally sound practices and will administer all managerial duties that serve to enhance established Prairie Flowers (PF) program goals and objectives.  The PF program, administered by the School of Integrative Biology and the School of Molecular & Cellular Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, promotes quality science education for upper elementary/middle school teachers.  “Hands-on, minds-on” science education is achieved through interaction of teachers and their students, school districts, and university faculty.  Currently, thirty-three kits that have been planned, constructed, and field-tested by the teacher-participants are loaned and delivered to participating teachers.


Duties:
·    Work with teachers and their administrators to help them assess the science curriculum in their schools based on needs assessment, scope and sequence and ILS.  Then help them develop a plan for effecting systemic change in science education in their schools
·    Provide upper elementary and middle school (gr 4-8) science teachers with training, assistance and support to improve their content knowledge and classroom practices
·    Work with program evaluator as necessary to evaluate program integrity
·    Organize and conduct semiannual meetings for Prairie Flowers participants
·    Organize and conduct summer workshops for Prairie Flowers participants that includes content knowledge and training on use of PF kits
·    Supervise part-time employees
·    Write PF summary report for HHMI Annual Report
·    Design annual budget for Prairie Flower HHMI funds and monitor monthly account statements
·    Identify, write, and coordinate grants that will enhance established PF program goals and objectives
·    Schedule and make monthly kit deliveries

·          Maintain organization of kit storage room

·         Inventory PF kits and keep re-supplies on hand

·          Schedule HHMI van use by PF staff

·         Plan, edit, print and send out bi-annual newsletter (fall and spring)
