Welcome to IB 150. This course covers biological processes over a broad range of spatial and temporal scales. The course is roughly divided into the following modules: genetics; evolution; physiology and development; and solving global issues using integrative biology. There are three hours of lecture per week and one hour of discussion. The weekly discussion sections provide an opportunity for students to work with graduate teaching assistants (TAs) to improve mastery of the lecture topics through supplemental readings and in-class exercises. Background information for the lectures and announcements will be available in Illinois Compass

Lectures and discussions are coordinated, and both will be covered on the three exams and the final. The final will be cumulative. The course grade is determined by the discussion points, scores on the exams, pre-lecture online quizzes, and the score on the final plus any extra credit earned by the student. IB 150 will use a plus/minus grading system.

All exams will be in a multiple-choice and short answer format. Non-programmable calculators will be allowed at exams. Illinois Compass will contain the grade book of record for this course. Students are responsible for ensuring that their grades in Illinois Compass are correct.

Additional information about your course instructors is available on this web site and in Illinois Compass. Please feel free to contact Professors Caceres and Marcot at any time during the semester, preferably by email.

Please note: It is expected that students will complete reading assignments prior to lecture or discussion.
