Frequently Asked Questions
Integrative Biology 335

"Hi. I was just wondering where the questions for the exam would be coming from. If it will be mostly or all from the class notes or if there will be questions taken from the books as well since there were a few chapters assigned to look at. Also, for the review questions in the back of the class notes, is there any way you could give us the answers to the questions so we can check to see that we are answering them correctly? It would be great to have those."

For general information about IB335 exams, including how to prepare and study for them, have a look at the link Exam and Review Information. Basically, you are responsible for ALL material emphasized in lecture. If readings were assigned for a particular topic, these would have been mentioned in class (or indicated on the specific web page used for that lecture). Use your class notes as a guide but don't rely on them exclusively (there will be extraneous information there that you will not need to know). Also, don't forget to use Digital Flowers, particularly for the terminology and family lectures. As for the exams at the back of your class notes, use the questions as a guide. Some material may not have been covered this year, or was covered at a different time (and therefore moved from one exam to another). At the present time, answers are not posted for these exams. However, many of the questions were taken directly from the glossary in Zomlefer and others were taken directly from your class notes. If you are unsure about a correct answer, send us an email, drop by, or give us a call. We want to help you and experience has it that you will learn more by working through each answer than by simply going directly to the correct answer. (I know, some students won't like to hear this but bring your answers to us and we can either confirm them or help you understand why you are wrong.) If we have a review session this year, you can also confirm the answers to these questions then.

"Why isn't their a field trip to the Missouri Botanical garden this year? My friends went in previous years and thats the only reasin why I took this course."

Yes, up until a few years ago we regularly took a field trip to the Missouri Botanical Garden to explore their diversity of plants. Often, this trip took place just before the final lab exam so it offered a wonderful review of material. Unfortunately, interest in going on such a trip has dwindled over the past few years and it got more and more expensive. And the more expensive it got, the less student interest it generated! If there is interest in going this semester, let your TA know. Depending upon the number of students who want to go, we can use personal cars or rent a small bus.
