What is this page?

Why, it is the unofficial, online, IB Honors newspaper, of course. Visit often and read the stories. They are always biological, sometimes in a warped sort of way. But always presented with good intentions.

What are those pictures at the top for?

Each year, I like to choose five new species - new in the sense that I have just discovered them. Each is unusual, certainly not the kind of things I was "familiar" with all my life. And each is a clickable link to more information about it. Have a look.

Bioluminaries light up the skies and the seas

As brilliant and thrilling as July 4th fireworks are, they pale in comparison to natural fireworks, perhaps because the natural ones are a surprise every time! These critters from the deepest parts of the ocean, were recorded by Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. Click the image for an action video... turn the sound off for a pure light show. Turn it on again and find out how and where it was made.
As for our own local fireflies, in Urbana, they peaked early this year - mid June - and by the 4th of July, were definitely on the decline. Ah well, more lovely for their ephemerality.
