Journal Club meets on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. in room 401 Roger Adams Lab (401 RAL).
Designed specifically for new Biochemistry Ph.D. students, the Journal Club course utilizes the subject matter of the weekly Biochemistry Departmental seminars to provide a focus for learning and understanding the background and techniques of current research. The primary goal is to train students in the essential skill of accessing and understanding the primary research literature. Reading and analyzing published work on the seminar topic beforehand, will allow students to fully engage in cutting-edge research seminars, without difficulties. First and second year Ph.D. students are required to attend and will receive course credit by registering in Biochemistry 590-S for 1 Hour of credit per semester. This seminar journal club meets on Tuesdays from 5:00 - 6:00 PM. The course will be graded on a Satisfactory/ Unsatisfactory basis based upon attendance at both the journal club and the seminars.
Students will be given and required to read one paper authored by that Friday's invited speaker beforehand and the paper will then be discussed on Tuesday evening. The faculty member who invites and serves as host of the speaker or the Seminar Program Chair, will lead these discussions. Prior to each journal club meeting, the paper authored by that week's speaker will be posted and emailed.
