February 1 1996 Service started. Each individual organelle can be zoomed. Nucleus, Golgi and chloroplast can be opened. Several EM micrographs available. March 7 1996 Changed navigation buttons. Now only the buttons that can be used on an image are displayed by the CGI script. A new edit field for searching was added. To allow jumps to a certain view, its name must be added to the index file. Added guts of the chloroplast down to a stack of grana. Major update of texts. March 21 1996 Added thylakoid protein complexes. Mitochondrion can be opened. March 25 1996 First movie (requires Netscape 2.0 or other browser that can play multiple image gif files) of plastocyanin diffusion. This is experimental and should be replaced at a later date. March 29 1996 Movie replaced with light absorption movie. This will probably become final when electron transport is added. April 1 1996 Counter added to the main page. April 2 1996 Mitochondrion - images uploaded. Allows exploration down to membrane protein complexes. No texts yet. Added EM micrographs of a mitochondrion and inside of a chloroplast. April 4 1996 Search changed to a pull-down selection. Highlight changed to Hotspots. UNIT MEMBRANE renamed to PHOSPHOLIPID BILAYER April 6 1996 Search pull-down selection did not work on Netscape 1.0, changed empty serch string to the word "nothing". Added texts to images inside the mitochondrion. To be edited. April 13 1996 1000 visitors, 41 links April 15 1996 Navigation button names were capitalized. Done by including an associative array in the CGI script that associates the print value with the form value. Hotspots button will now appear also for other actions, not just Zoom. Modified hotspots and zooming in the mitochondrion. Zooming now available down to protein complexes with hotspots working properly. Changed the text in Help that described use of HOTSPOTS. April 26 1996 A new image generated for a front view of Golgi. This one has thicker membrane discs and the angle of view is more from above. It is easier to see what's going on this way. A new cut of the nucleus added. The old one will be phased out, this one will soon be zoomable. May 1 1996 A basic zoom sequence was added for the nucleus that goes all the way down to DNA. DNA molecular model will be added soon. Images at the level of individual chromosomes need updating. May 2 1996 A DNA molecule added thanks to Paul Thiessen from UIUC. May 7 1996 Nucleosome close-up updated with Paul's DNA molecule.
