Concluding Remarks
WIMOVAC currently gives a firm foundation for future modelling work.
However further work on model dialogs for a more detailed treatment of soil processes
including decomposition, nitrogen cycling and mineralisation is indicated. Attention to
herbivory and refinement of links between ecophysical and ecosystem process is also
required. Although WIMOVAC can be run on any operating system which supports standard
windows executable files such as Windows NT, Windows for Workgroups and IBMs OS/2, a
possible limitation of WIMOVAC is that its code is tied to Visual Basic and the Windows
system. WIMOVAC however has been created so that the functions which make up the modelling
algorithms can be isolated and transferred to other environments. Furthermore it is
possible to compile numerical routines written in other languages, such as ANSI C and ANSI
FORTRAN into a dynamic link library (DLL) which may be used without source code
translation with Visual Basic and WIMOVAC.
