Admission Requirements to M.S. in Biology

To be considered, an applicant must:

  • hold a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent) comparable in content and number of credit hours with that granted by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign;

  • have an overall grade-point average of 3.0 (A=4.0) for the last 2 years of undergraduate study; have a grade-point average of 3.0 in all biology, other science, and math courses.

  • include a brief statement of educational objectives with the formal application; and

  • submit three letters of recommendation written exclusively for the M.S. Biology Program. Letters should be from professors or research supervisors.

In addition, an applicant must have:

  • two semesters of college-level biology;

  • two semesters of physics with laboratory;

  • one semester of calculus; and

  • one semester of organic chemistry with laboratory.

GRE scores are not required for admission to the M.S. in Biology degree program, but they will be part of the application review process if submitted. Use department code 0203 or 0000.

 

An international applicant with a TOEFL score of less than 613 (paper-based test) or 257 (computer-based test), or TSE score of less than 60, will not be considered for admission into the M.S. Biology program.
