Academic advising provides students with the opportunity build a relationship with their advisor for the purpose of gaining assistance in planning their educational career, in learning the skills needed for academic success, and in learning how to access the variety of resources and services available to them on the UIUC campus. Academic advisors assist students with course selection, provide accurate information regarding graduation requirements and university policies and procedures and notify students of academic and career opportunities.
The Integrative Biology academic advisors are Gary Spezia and Bev Hertle. We welcome and encourage discussions with our IB students about their academic, professional and career plans and look forward to developing meaningful advising relationships with our students as they progress through the major.
To make an appointment with Bev or Gary, call 333-6774 or simply stop by the advising office at 127 Burrill Hall. You may choose to meet with either advisor and we strongly encourage you to meet with one of us at least once a semester.
We invite students to visit the IB School's web pages for course information and major requirements.
REGISTRATION -- The academic advising staff will assist students with the UI-Integrate Self-Service Registration system when they enter the IB major. Students will then be able to register themselves for the following semesters. At this time, we will discuss all requirements for graduation. It is strongly recommended that students meet with their advisor at least once a semester to plan future courses and to discuss career options.
INTERNSHIPS & EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES -- There are many options for IB students from which to choose. Gaining experience in an internship, research or other related experience provides students an opportunity to fine-tune their interests, skills and abilities.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS -- Students have access to their individual graduation audits via the Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS). This valuable tool permits students to view progress toward degree requirements including campus, general education, non-primary language and major requirements.
